We are delighted to welcome the newest member of our Matjiesfontein family, Daniel Taljaard, Hotel Manager and Events Coordinator.

Learn more about Daniel and his passion for hospitality in our short interview Q&A:

1. Tell us more about yourself – where did you study?
I studied my advanced diploma in hospitality management at IHT Hotel School located in Durbanville, Cape Town. I completed my first year's six-month traineeship at Hilton Cape Town City Centre Hotel. In my third year I completed my traineeship at Westin Cape Town Hotel. I fulfilled training in the Front Office, Reservations, Food & Beverage, Kitchen and Housekeeping departments. I went on to also ascertain my BTECH degree in hospitality management at Cape Town University of Technology. This qualification gave me knowledge on a strategic level to better manage a hospitality business. My past experience involves having worked for Hilton Cape Town, Westin Cape Town, Erinvale Estate Hotel and Zevenwacht Wine Estate to name a few. Now, I am very excited to have joined the Matjiesfontein team!

2. Other than hospitality, where do your other passions lie?
I enjoy nature and wildlife, therefore I decided that I can make the best difference in lodges and remote locations. When in nature I am at my happiest; I continually hike and enjoy nature based activities. I also have a passion for leadership and seeing people grow.

3. What has been a highlight for your thus far since working at Matjies?
I recently was awarded a position on the Laingsburg Tourism Committee where I will be actively involved in promoting tourism in the area.

4. What do you love most about Matjiesfontein?
Matjies is quite unique in the sense that I work with a unique team that has a passion for their work!

5. Your favourite quote?
“A leader is great, not because of their power, but because of their ability to empower others.” – John C Maxwell
